NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR BOARD MEMBERS

Ever wondered how to become a member of our Board?

If you’ve ever wanted to get more involved in the local chamber and support the Orange business community, we’ve put together some information below explaining what Board Members do, and how they are elected!

Nominations are open to current financial members of Business Orange and can be lodged with the Secretary via email at members@businessorange.com.au by 21 October 2026.

HOW ARE BOARD MEMBERS ELECTED?

Nominations must be submitted for Board roles 7 days prior to the Annual General Meeting (28 October 2026) and must be proposed and seconded by two other current financial members of Business Orange.

At the AGM, Board roles are vacated so that the new Board can be elected by member vote. Members present at the AGM vote for nominees to fill the vacant roles. As per the constitution, no proxy votes are allowed and members must be present either in person or via videoconference to vote. Members must also be current financial members in order to vote.

WHAT IS BUSINESS ORANGE?

Business Orange is the Business Chamber for the Orange region. We are a not-for-profit, volunteer led organisation committed to representing the interests of the local business community.
Throughout the year we coordinate major business events such as the Business Orange Awards, liaise and advocate on key issues facing local businesses and provide education and networking opportunities to our members.
Our Board comprise of representatives from within the local business community who volunteer their time to work on the events and initiatives of the Chamber. On average, our Board Members volunteer a few hours a month, however work is flexible depending on the projects and initiatives members are involved in at different times of the year.
As a whole, our Board aim to work together as one team to represent businesses in Orange and bring value to our members and the broader community.

WHAT MAKES A GREAT BOARD MEMBER?

We’re looking to continue to build with the right mix of connections and energy to grow. We are specifically looking for people with business experience and:

  • Connection to your industry or sector: especially sectors not historically well represented on the Board (manufacturing/industrial, agribusiness, and other growth areas in the region). We need people willing to talk to their own networks and bring the business community’s voice into the room.
  • Genuine interest in strategy and growth: someone who wants to help attract new members, reduce churn, and grow the Chamber’s relevance in the region.
  • Ability to contribute and work with a team: someone with capacity to have some hands-on involvement with other Board Members and our Executive Officer on Chamber initiatives throughout the year.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

  • Monthly Board meetings: attendance is expected to the majority of meetings either in person or online, with notice provided if you can’t make one. (see attendance requirements in the constitution)
  • Active participation in Board-organised events: not just attending, but helping run, promote, or represent the Chamber including at some of our key annual events such as the Business Orange Awards.
  • Involvement in at least one project or initiative per year: actively working on at least one project per year beyond attendance-only.
  • Outreach within your own network: introductions, flagging prospective members, sharing sector news and feedback that helps the Chamber grow, as well as providing a voice to your sector within the Chamber to help us improve advocacy.
  • Representing the Chamber with integrity: including declaring conflicts of interest and maintaining confidentiality on sensitive Board discussions.

BENEFITS OF BEING A BOARD MEMBER

  • A genuine say in the Chamber’s next strategic direction, not an inherited plan
  • Visibility and standing in the region’s business community
  • Networking with other business, community and government leaders across industries and regions
  • Regular Business NSW education and webinar opportunities exclusive to Chamber Boards
  • The chance to give back to your business community and build something you’ll be proud to have shaped
